Diplomatic discussions in Cotonou have underscored the robust partnership between the Republic of Benin and the Kingdom of Morocco, with both nations expressing satisfaction over their bilateral cooperation. During preparatory meetings for the seventh session of the Morocco-Benin Joint Cooperation Commission, officials highlighted key achievements across multiple sectors since His Majesty King Mohammed VI‘s historic visit to Benin in 2004.
At the forefront of the talks were Mr. Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, and Benin’s delegation led by Corinne Amori Brunet, Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Diaspora Integration, alongside Hugues Oscar Lokossou, Minister Delegate for Resource Mobilization and Debt Management. The delegations commended the deep-rooted friendship and mutual respect between the two nations, particularly between King Mohammed VI and President Romuald Wadagni.
The meetings also emphasized the shared vision of transforming Benin-Morocco relations into a leading example of inter-African collaboration. This model would be built on solidarity, exchange, and shared progress, reflecting the enduring historical ties between the countries.
Expanding cooperation into high-potential sectors
Key discussions focused on identifying new avenues to invigorate the partnership. Priority areas include economy, trade, industry, investments, tourism, agriculture, justice, security, vocational training, higher education, scientific research, health, digital innovation, and cultural exchanges.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a robust economic partnership that actively engages the private sectors of both countries. This collaboration aims to boost economic exchanges and mobilize resources to support sustainable development initiatives in Benin.
