Tensions between France and Burkina Faso had been steadily escalating for several months. On June 26, Ouagadougou decisively articulated its position concerning the former colonial power, announcing the immediate severance of diplomatic relations with Paris. France has been given a strict one-week deadline to close its chancellery. This significant declaration was made public through a communiqué broadcast on the Radiodiffusion – Télévision du Burkina (RTB).
