The Chairperson of the Borkou Provincial Council, Ahmat Bedei Toullomi, was taken into custody Thursday late afternoon in N’Djamena and transferred to the General Coordination of Judicial Police, as confirmed by security sources.
The arrest occurred inside the premises of La Résidence hotel, just before 5:00 PM, following a legal dispute initiated by a defamation and public insult complaint.
According to documents reviewed during the investigation, the complaint was filed by Goudje Gueillet Hemchi and Kodou Omari. They accused Ahmat Bedei Toullomi of making damaging social media posts in which he implicated them in a drug trafficking operation in Chad.
The complainants strongly denied these allegations, calling them “completely false, baseless, and slanderous,” and argued that the statements severely damaged their reputation and dignity.
A warrant for his arrest was issued on August 4, 2026, by the prosecutor’s office at the N’Djamena Court of First Instance, requiring his presence to address the accusations made against him.
Investigations revealed that the Borkou Provincial Council Chairperson had been summoned multiple times previously but failed to appear. After more than ten days of unanswered summons, law enforcement proceeded with his arrest to ensure his attendance for questioning.
Within minutes of his detention, a statement appeared at 5:10 PM on his Facebook page: “Either the Marshal stands with all of us, or the traffickers are stronger than the law. I have been abducted.”
At this stage, the detention remains part of a formal judicial procedure.
