The Real Madrid hierarchy has made no secret of their desire to find a new temporary home for teenage sensation Franco Mastantuono this summer. Following a productive consultation with the player’s representatives earlier this week, both parties agreed that a temporary departure would best serve Mastantuono’s long-term development after a frustrating first season at the Santiago Bernabéu.
At just 18 years of age, Mastantuono has already demonstrated the technical brilliance and vision that initially convinced the Spanish giants to sign him from River Plate. Yet regular game time in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad proved elusive, prompting the club to seek an alternative pathway that guarantees first-team minutes.
Serie A emerges as the preferred destination
With the young Argentine holding an Italian passport, clubs across Serie A have already begun positioning themselves to secure his services on loan. Fiorentina has taken the lead in negotiations, having initiated formal discussions with Real Madrid this week. Meanwhile, SSC Napoli and AC Milan have both expressed keen interest, eager to add the playmaking prodigy to their ranks.
A return to River Plate was briefly considered but swiftly dismissed by Real Madrid, who insist Mastantuono must continue his development within European football. A move to the Premier League or another LaLiga club also appears off the table, further strengthening the case for an Italian loan deal.
Tactical fit remains the top priority
The Merengues are clear on one condition: any loan must guarantee Mastantuono starts games in his preferred attacking midfield role. During his debut campaign under Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa, the youngster was often deployed out wide due to unconventional tactical setups. Real Madrid will not repeat that scenario—only clubs with a clear plan to utilise him as a central number 10 will be considered.
Pre-season plans hang in the balance
Despite the ongoing transfer talks, Mastantuono has maintained a positive relationship with new first-team coach José Mourinho. However, the player’s involvement in the upcoming pre-season tour remains uncertain. The club is taking its time to evaluate all incoming offers, leaving Mastantuono in limbo until a final decision is reached.
