French businesses thriving in Senegal’s solar energy sector

From the bustling Dakar waterfront to the serene Gorée Island, and from the Dakar airport highway to remote rural hamlets, solar-powered streetlights now illuminate the landscapes of Senegal. This growing solar lighting market is primarily led by two French enterprises: Ragni, a family-run business from the Alpes-Maritimes region, and Fonroche, a small-to-medium-sized company headquartered in Agen. Together with approximately 340 other French firms operating in the country, these businesses are capitalizing on the burgeoning opportunities within Senegal‘s evolving energy landscape. While industry giants like Orange, TotalEnergies, Auchan, and Eiffage have long-established roots across West Africa, smaller enterprises are carving out their own space in this dynamic market.
