The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, arrived in Libreville on Friday for a working and friendship visit aimed at bolstering bilateral relations between Gabon and the DRC.
Upon landing, President Tshisekedi was greeted by a large crowd of Gabonese citizens, creating a vibrant atmosphere as he made his way through the capital. The warm reception underscored the significance of this diplomatic engagement.
The Congolese leader then proceeded to the newly renovated Léon Mba Memorial, where he paid tribute to Gabon’s first president and independence icon by laying a wreath. The solemn ceremony included a tribute to fallen heroes and an introduction to Léon Mba’s legacy through a biographical presentation. President Tshisekedi subsequently signed the memorial’s guestbook, symbolizing his commitment to preserving shared African history.
The Gabonese presidency highlighted that this tribute aligns with broader efforts to honor key figures who shaped Africa’s path to independence. While the agenda for the bilateral discussions remained undisclosed, President Tshisekedi’s visit to the presidential palace with his Gabonese counterpart on Saturday set the stage for deeper diplomatic dialogue.
Both nations, members of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), share longstanding diplomatic ties, often marked by high-level exchanges between Libreville and Kinshasa.
