The Ambassador received a warm welcome at the Bishopric from the Metropolitan Archbishop of Douala, followed by a guided tour of the premises. Accompanied by the Chancellor of the Archdioces of Douala, Ambassador Sedat also explored the cathedral, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. The German diplomatic representation in Cameroon later elaborated on the significance of this cordial exchange via a statement on its official Facebook account.

The German Embassy in Cameroon highlighted the broader context of the visit, stating: “During his trip to Douala, Ambassador Christian Sedat had the distinct privilege of meeting His Excellency Mgr Samuel Kleda, Archbishop of Douala. Their candid and insightful discussion focused on the vital role of religious leaders within society, particularly in light of the Pope’s landmark visit to Cameroon. Christian Sedat, a seasoned German diplomat, currently serves as the Ambassador for the Federal Republic of Germany in Cameroon. Based in Yaoundé, he officially assumed this pivotal role in July 2025. His extensive diplomatic career includes significant experience within the central divisions of the German Federal Foreign Office and postings to various diplomatic missions globally. Notably, he previously served as Germany’s Ambassador to Juba, South Sudan, from 2023 to 2025.
Support for local social projects
Prior to his assignment in Cameroon, Ambassador Sedat’s international experience also included a period as Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania, from 2005 to 2008. From 2009 to 2013, he contributed to diplomatic efforts at the German Embassies in London and Washington D.C., further broadening his expertise.
Since his arrival at the German Embassy in Yaoundé, Ambassador Sedat has been actively spearheading key initiatives within German-Cameroonian cooperation. His strategic focus encompasses several critical areas: bolstering economic relations and development cooperation; overseeing sensitive cultural dialogues, particularly those concerning cultural and heritage assets originating from the colonial era; and providing robust support for grassroots social projects, such as public health micro-initiatives.
