Granit Xhaka is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a move to Chelsea, a development that has sent ripples across the Premier League. The London club had previously submitted a substantial offer of thirty million euros to acquire the seasoned midfielder, as first reported by journalist Luca Cerchione on Saturday. Further breaking news from Florian Plettenberg, a journalist for Sky Deutschland, indicates that the 33-year-old player has already secured a personal agreement with the Blues.

“Exclusive information: Granit Xhaka and Chelsea have already reached a verbal agreement regarding a transfer,” Plettenberg announced on X on Saturday evening. “A full agreement has already been found on personal terms.”

Chelsea has also initiated discussions with Sunderland, Xhaka’s current club, regarding the potential transfer. Interestingly, Xabi Alonso, who shared the pitch with Xhaka at Bayer Leverkusen from 2023 to 2025, is reportedly making significant efforts to recruit the Swiss international.

Xhaka’s illustrious career began at FC Basel, followed by stints at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Arsenal, and Leverkusen, before joining Sunderland a year ago for fifteen million euros.

During his time with Sunderland, who impressively secured a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, the Swiss midfielder participated in 36 official matches, contributing one goal and six assists.

Xhaka’s current contract with Sunderland extends until mid-2028. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is presently estimated at eight million euros.

A left-footed player, Xhaka boasts an impressive 149 international caps and is currently captaining Switzerland at the ongoing World Cup. He has played every minute of the group stage, leading his team to the top of Group B, where they now await a third-placed opponent in the next round.
