Côte d’Ivoire: Laurent Gbagbo introduces new leadership model for PPA-CI
Former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, who also leads the Pan-African People’s Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI), has unveiled a major restructuring of his party’s leadership. In an official statement, he announced the appointment of four vice-presidents and a Chair of the Strategic and Political Council (CSP), each assigned distinct yet complementary responsibilities designed to strengthen the party’s operational efficiency.
Four vice-presidents to share strategic responsibilities
Assoa Adou, appointed First Vice-President with responsibility for party doctrine, will oversee compliance with the party’s statutes, internal regulations, and alignment of all structures with its founding principles. His role ensures that every action taken by the PPA-CI reflects its core values and legal framework.
Oulaye Hubert, Second Vice-President in charge of Party Affairs, will preside over Central Committee sessions according to the party’s statutes and internal rules. His appointment underscores a commitment to transparent and rule-based governance within the organization.
Ackan Emmanuel, Third Vice-President tasked with Party Animation, is responsible for energizing political activities and expanding the party’s outreach. He will also manage relations with national institutions, strictly adhering to the political guidance provided by the party’s leadership.
Justin Koné Katinan, Fourth Vice-President for General Policy, will coordinate and monitor the implementation of the party’s political agenda. He will lead the development and oversight of government programs aligned with the PPA-CI’s strategic vision.
A new governance pillar: the Strategic and Political Council
Sébastien Dano Djedje has been named Chair of the CSP, assuming overall responsibility for the party’s general management and strategic direction. This role marks a shift toward shared leadership, emphasizing collective decision-making and unified action.
Gbagbo emphasized the importance of this restructuring in a public statement: “The strength of our party lies not in a single individual, but in the ability of our leaders and members to work together toward a common goal.”
He further explained that this reorganization aims to enhance the party’s functionality, effectiveness, and capacity to deliver on its promises. The decision follows his announcement during the recent PPA-CI Renaissance Day celebrations in Songon M’Bratté, where he first outlined plans to revitalize the party’s structure.
