Olympique de Marseille facing Greenwood departure
The question is no longer whether Mason Greenwood will leave Olympique de Marseille during the summer transfer window, but when. The English attacker holds the highest market value in the squad and must be sold to help the club balance its books. AS Roma, Atlético de Madrid, Fenerbahçe and Al-Hilal are among the possible destinations. However, Marseille does not intend to sell Greenwood cheaply, especially since Manchester United will receive 40% of the transfer fee.
Fenerbahçe set to increase bid
Reports indicate that Fenerbahçe submitted a €35 million offer to Marseille, which was not accepted. The Turkish side is not discouraged and could launch a new bid before the end of the month. Marseille is pushing for a quick resolution, as the DNCG has requested additional information from the club before making its decision. Meanwhile, AS Roma has not given up hope.
What fee for Greenwood’s transfer?
It remains to be seen what amount Marseille will ultimately receive, as time is pressing. A few days ago, journalist Karim Bennati reflected on the figures mentioned so far. “Six months ago, when Greenwood was on fire, much higher sums were talked about. Now, with Marseille’s end-of-season struggles and his own dip in form, are we looking at €50 million for OM? Honestly, looking at prices in Europe today, a player who can score around 20 goals each season in Ligue 1 for that amount is nothing,” he said. “If I were OM, I would have a clause to raise it to €60 million on July 1, and I’d wait a little longer to try to find a buyer.”
