While in Linguère, where he hosted Ousmane Sonko as part of Pastef’s national tour for membership card sales, the deputy firmly stated that no deferral of the elections should be contemplated.
El Malick Ndiaye drew a direct connection between the significant turnout for Pastef’s membership drive and the continuing debate surrounding the electoral calendar.
“Our membership card sales operations are energizing the nation, in a positive way. Across the country, people are eager to acquire Pastef membership cards. This enthusiasm could potentially influence the date of the forthcoming elections,” he remarked.
However, the former National Assembly president remained unequivocal about the elections proceeding as planned.
“But these elections, no one possesses the authority to postpone them. ‘Beug beuré, bagn beuré’ (there will be a contest, whether they like it or not),” he asserted with conviction.

The leader of Pastef had previously called upon the Head of State to issue a decree establishing the date for the next local elections, emphasizing that this decision falls squarely within presidential prerogatives.
“Issuing a decree to dismiss Fadilou Keïta, Waly Diouf Bodiang, and others is within his authority; no one disputes that. In the same vein, he must issue a decree to set the election date. These are all simple decrees,” Sonko had declared.
