On Saturday, July 26, 2026, a UNESCO Mali delegation led by Acting Representative Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane participated in the official launch ceremony of the 32nd national reforestation campaign at the Palais des Pionniers in Bamako. The event was presided over by General of Division Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the President of the Transition and Head of State.

The ceremony brought together government officials, national institution representatives, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, women’s associations, and youth groups. It also mobilized environmental protection advocates, sustainable resource management experts, and climate change resilience professionals.

With the theme “Youth at the heart of environmental citizenship for a greener, more resilient Mali”, this year’s campaign reinforces national priorities in ecosystem restoration, desertification control, and natural resource preservation. A key focus is citizen mobilization, particularly among young people, as essential agents in the ecological transition. The initiative aims to plant 21 million trees nationwide during the rainy season, contributing to the creation of a more sustainable and resilient Mali.

By participating in this campaign, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting Mali in raising community awareness, strengthening local capacities, and promoting innovative solutions to enhance ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
