Algeria and Niger expand strategic health cooperation

During the second session of the Algeria-Niger Grand Joint Commission, both nations reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing medical cooperation. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, this initiative is part of a broader strategic framework designed to establish a lasting and effective partnership between the two neighbors.

In the capital city of Niamey, the Algerian Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène, held discussions with his counterpart from the Republic of Niger, Garba Hakimi. The meeting served as a platform to explore new avenues for collaboration, reflecting the deep-rooted fraternal ties connecting Algeria and Niger. Both officials reviewed the current state of their partnership and looked toward future developments that would benefit the citizens of both countries.

The dialogue focused on several technical priorities, including the advancement of medical and paramedical training programs. The ministers also discussed expanding cooperation into specialized medical fields, such as kidney transplantation. Furthermore, the integration of telemedicine services was identified as a key factor in improving patient care and making specialized health services more accessible.

Advancing hospital twinning and disease prevention

A significant outcome of the talks was the agreement to promote twinning projects between hospitals in both nations. These efforts aim to support the development of healthcare infrastructure and improve coordination in preventive medicine. A specific focus will be placed on combating regional diseases, highlighted by the planned establishment of a tropical disease surveillance center in the province of Tamanrasset.

Digital transformation also took center stage during the discussions. Both ministers emphasized the necessity of implementing digital solutions within health management systems. By modernizing health information systems, Algeria and Niger aim to improve governance and increase the overall efficiency of their respective medical services.
