Burkina Faso’s newly launched e-verbalisation system for road infractions has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness, with the Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, personally observing its swift impact just twelve hours after its official activation. The digital enforcement mechanism, designed to automatically detect traffic code violations, went live on August 1, 2026, at midnight. By midday, Minister Sana was at the video protection supervision center, monitoring the real-time operation alongside Zakaria Hebie, the Director General of Transmissions and Information Technology.
The Minister commended the technical teams for their professionalism, acknowledging their pivotal contribution to deploying this innovative system. In its initial twelve hours of operation, the platform recorded a staggering 1,099 infractions. These included common violations such as failing to wear a seatbelt, disregarding traffic lights, exceeding the posted speed limit, and using a mobile phone while driving. Notably, five offenders had already settled their fines through the FASO ARZEKA digital payment platform.
Mahamadou Sana underscored that these early outcomes unequivocally demonstrate the system’s operational readiness and reflect the government’s steadfast commitment to leveraging digital technologies for enhanced road safety across the nation. The Ministry further emphasized that adherence to the Road Code remains the most effective strategy for preventing traffic violations and associated penalties.
