Organizers reveal details of the upcoming 51st Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly in Yaoundé
The countdown has begun for Cameroon to host the 51st session of the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly (APF) in two weeks. The preparatory committee, led by Deputy Hilarion Etong, has unveiled key highlights of this major intercontinental event following a press briefing.
Over 300 delegates are expected, including parliament presidents, youth representatives, and officials from all four APF regions: Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. Confirmed attendees already include Amelia Lakrafi, APF General Delegate, and Louise Mouchoukiwabo, Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie. Registrations have reached 275 participants.
The organizing committee, operational since January 2026 and chaired by Deputy Etong, consists of 17 subcommittees covering every aspect of the event. From logistics to hospitality, eight hotels of varying standards have been secured to accommodate attendees.
The assembly will focus on two critical themes: ‘Multilateralism and State Sovereignty’ and ‘Francophone Parliaments in the Face of Climate Change’. Under the first theme, discussions will address rising protectionism, counter-terrorism cooperation, migration challenges, and democratic stability within the Francophonie space. The second theme empowers parliamentarians to advocate for climate action and translate global agreements into national legislation.
The official program includes:
- A bureau meeting on July 7, 2026;
- Youth and women parliamentarians’ networks convening on July 8, followed by an excursion to Nachtigal;
- Permanent commissions meeting on July 9;
- The solemn opening session on July 10;
- Concluding discussions on July 11, 2026.
