SDF appoints Louis Marie Kakdeu to lead election preparation ahead of 2027 polls

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) has appointed its second vice-president, Louis Marie Kakdeu, as director of the newly formed National Election Preparation Commission, a strategic move announced during the party’s National Executive Committee meeting in Bamenda on June 13, 2026.

The appointment comes as the SDF, the country’s leading opposition party, gears up for legislative and municipal elections scheduled for 2027. The commission’s creation reflects the party’s commitment to a methodical and transparent electoral process, with Kakdeu tasked with overhauling the party’s grassroots structures and strengthening its presence in polling stations nationwide.

Strengthening transparency and grassroots engagement

Kakdeu, an economist and university lecturer specializing in budgetary, economic, and fiscal matters, brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. His appointment follows his successful leadership as campaign director for Joshua Osih during the October 2025 presidential election, where he demonstrated a keen ability to mobilize support and refine campaign strategies.

In his new position, Kakdeu is expected to prioritize a systematic return to the field, ensuring the party’s structures are revitalized in its traditional strongholds. His mandate includes identifying and recruiting competitive candidates in underserved constituencies, thereby broadening the SDF’s electoral footprint.

The commission’s formation underscores the SDF’s resolve to address recent electoral setbacks by rebuilding its political infrastructure from the ground up. Kakdeu’s leadership is seen as a critical step toward restoring voter confidence and positioning the party for success in the upcoming elections.
