The legal action initiated against Ousmane Sonko concerning statements made about the holy city of Touba remains in force. This was confirmed by Serigne Makhtar Bousso, the spokesperson for the complainants, who was questioned on Tuesday as part of this case.
The complaint stems from a request submitted to the public prosecutor on 14 July 2026 by Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso. The two complainants, who identify themselves as descendants of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, accuse the President of the National Assembly of making remarks during the inauguration of Pastef’s headquarters in Mbacké. Sonko is said to have claimed that illicit funds had entered the holy city of Touba.
The complainants argue that these statements could tarnish the honour and reputation of Touba, a city founded by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba on principles of religious devotion and integrity. They are therefore calling on the author of the remarks to clarify their meaning and provide evidence to support them. Serigne Makhtar Bousso reiterated this demand, stressing that full transparency is needed regarding the comments targeting the religious city.
