Following a day of uncertainty on Sunday, marked by armed forces storming the national television studios in Cotonou to declare they had overthrown President Patrice Talon, the head of state reassured the nation Sunday evening that the situation was fully under control.
The attempted coup, foiled on Sunday, left some of the conspirators still at large, with authorities continuing their manhunt. However, all hostages—including high-ranking military officers—have been safely released. Meanwhile, neighboring countries in West Africa are stepping up support, including military assistance, to strengthen stability in the region.
