The spiritual leader of the Mouride brotherhood, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, has once again called for national cohesion ahead of the Grand Magal of Touba in 2026. His appeal came during a courtesy visit from Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, who arrived in the holy city on 30 July to pay his respects.
The meeting underscored the deep spiritual significance of the Magal, an annual pilgrimage commemorating the exile of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, founder of the Mouride movement. Sonko highlighted the event’s historical and religious importance, praising the values of faith, perseverance, and peace that define the Mouride tradition.
