Moroccan and spanish security leaders recognized in Rabat

In Rabat on Thursday, Abdellatif Hammouchi, who leads both the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) and the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), extended a warm welcome to a distinguished delegation from the Spanish Civil Guard. The visiting delegation was headed by Major General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, who serves as the chief of the Intelligence Directorate. This high-profile visit marked an official mission to Morocco, signifying the deep ties between the two nations.

The gathering underscored the exemplary level of security collaboration between Moroccan and Spanish agencies, widely regarded as a benchmark in the global fight against terrorism and trans-border criminal activities.

During the visit, numerous high-ranking officials from both the DGSN and DGST were bestowed with prestigious Spanish decorations. These honors, granted by decree of the Spanish Minister of Interior, recognized their pivotal contributions to bolstering operational cooperation and technical assistance between Morocco and Spain.

These significant accolades serve as a powerful testament to the profound strategic partnership uniting Morocco and Spain. They reflect Madrid’s clear acknowledgment of the exceptional professionalism demonstrated by Moroccan security leaders in confronting shared regional and international threats.

Addressing the attendees, Major General Peláez Piñeiro lauded Morocco as an «indispensable strategic partner» in the global battle against terrorism and organized crime. He specifically praised the advanced bilateral security cooperation, which has proven crucial in tackling increasingly complex regional and international challenges.

These recent honors build upon previous recognitions for Abdellatif Hammouchi himself, who is slated to receive the Grand Cross of Merit of the Spanish Civil Guard – its highest distinction – in November 2025. Furthermore, in 2014, he was awarded the Police Merit Cross with Red Distinction, acknowledging his outstanding role in cultivating an exemplary security partnership between Morocco and Spain.
