The high-profile delegation headed by General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, concluded a significant visit to Mauritania on Tuesday, securing an audience with President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani. The meeting took place in Nouakchott and included the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, as confirmed by a statement from the FAR’s General Staff.
Following the presidential meeting, General Berrid proceeded to the Ministry of Defense headquarters, where he engaged in discussions with Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. The minister presented him with the Commander-grade National Order of Merit medal, awarded in recognition of his contributions on behalf of the Mauritanian Republic.
Later in the day, the Moroccan military leader joined forces with Mauritania’s Chief of Staff to chair the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral military ties, with both sides highlighting the tangible benefits and progress achieved through their ongoing partnership.
Participants expressed strong approval of the cooperation’s outcomes, describing it as a model of strategic collaboration that sets a benchmark for regional defense alliances.
