OGC Nice could not secure a victory against the league’s bottom team, FC Metz, ending in a 0-0 draw. This result, however, ultimately didn’t alter their fate, as both Auxerre and Le Havre clinched wins in their respective matches. Consequently, The Gym must now prepare for the demanding relegation playoffs to retain their spot in Ligue 1.

From a purely statistical standpoint, this particular match against Metz might not be the source of Nice’s deepest regrets. Yet, the undeniable fact remains: The Aiglons failed to overcome the league’s last-place team on their home turf, a result that could have been pivotal for their Ligue 1 future. Unexpectedly, Auxerre, who were level on points with Nice before the fixture, managed a decisive 2-0 victory over LOSC in Lille. Similarly, Le Havre, also battling for survival, triumphed 2-0 at Lorient.

The quest for Ligue 1 survival will now proceed through a two-legged playoff series against Saint-Étienne, scheduled for May 26 and 29. These crucial encounters will take place just days after their highly anticipated Coupe de France final clash against Lens this Friday at the Stade de France.

Next up for Nice: A decisive encounter against Lens in the Coupe de France final this Friday, May 22, at 9 PM.
