Gagnoa – The Ouragahio municipality, led by Mayor Dr. Pierre Dacoury-Tabley, recently conducted a comprehensive evaluation of its impactful women’s empowerment policy. This assessment took place during a special tribute event for the commune’s women, affectionately known as ‘Mother’s Day,’ which was presided over by the local sub-prefect, Tié-Bi Assi Apo Josiane, within the town hall courtyard.
The initiatives under review encompassed various crucial areas, including literacy training and fundamental accounting skills tailored for women entrepreneurs. Significant attention was also given to enhancing mother-child healthcare services and ensuring extensive coverage of maternity facilities and health centers across the communal territory. Mayor Dacoury-Tabley emphasized that the overarching goal is to guarantee the well-being of mothers, enabling them to actively pursue and implement initiatives for their own empowerment.
In the realm of commerce, Dr. Dacoury-Tabley highlighted the ongoing development of a multi-store gastronomic hub. This new space is designed to provide a platform for these women to showcase their culinary talents and exceptional quality, ultimately allowing them to generate sustainable income from their endeavors.
The empowerment strategy further extends to agricultural projects. Here, women working in the fields receive vital support through the provision of dedicated agricultural laborers and workers.
Moreover, Dr. Dacoury explained that school canteens have been established in every school, with their supplies sourced directly from the produce cultivated by dedicated women farmers in the fields. These women, beneficiaries of projects conceptualized and funded by the Ouragahio municipality, are actively involved in producing and processing the food consumed in these canteens. To further bolster women’s businesses, the municipality has also streamlined the process for establishing commercial ventures by reducing taxation.
During the gathering, Mayor Dacoury-Tabley personally distributed gifts to each of the 600 mothers who had convened from Ouragahio’s various neighborhoods and 11 surrounding villages. The commune’s chief magistrate expressed his delight, affirming that “united women facilitate collective reflection, foster a positive work environment, and crucially, enhance overall effectiveness.” This reflects a commitment to robust African society news and community development.
