Senegal’s National Assembly has recently achieved a significant milestone in bolstering parliamentary scrutiny. On Friday, August 21, 2026, deputies convened the inaugural meeting of the Committee for Public Policy Evaluation (CEPP). This crucial session focused on formally establishing the committee and electing its leadership bureau.
The operational launch of the CEPP marks a momentous occasion in Senegalese parliamentary affairs. Envisioned since the constitutional reforms of 2016, the evaluation of public policies is now fully integrated into the National Assembly’s functions. The CEPP’s core mandate involves structuring, leading, and tracking parliamentary evaluations of public policies, thereby strengthening accountability for public actions and ensuring the greater efficacy of government initiatives. Composition of the Committee for Public Policy Evaluation
The committee comprises a distinguished group of parliamentary leaders, including the President of the National Assembly, the heads of various parliamentary groups, and the representative for non-registered deputies. Also included are the presidents of all 14 permanent commissions, alongside nine additional deputies and their alternates. These members are appointed proportionally based on the officially constituted parliamentary groups, with consideration given to proposals from non-registered deputies.
Following its initial assembly, the CEPP’s Bureau was formally established. Ousmane Sonko, currently serving as the President of the National Assembly, will assume the presidency of this vital new committee. He will be supported by Mohamed Sall, who was elected as First Vice-President, and Djimo Souaré, taking on the role of Second Vice-President. Béatrice Germaine Faye has been appointed First Secretary, with Adama Diallo serving as Second Secretary.
