A true product of the club’s academy, Presnel Kimpembe navigated the challenges of Paris Saint-Germain’s QSI era, ultimately culminating his journey with a magnificent Champions League victory. The Parisian defender has now revealed that the arrival of Willian Pacho quickly made it clear to him that his time at the club was drawing to a close.

In 2024, Paris Saint-Germain made a significant move, investing €40 million to secure Willian Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt. The intention was unambiguous: the Ecuadorian international was brought to Paris to forge a central defensive partnership with Marquinhos. This acquisition naturally had a profound effect on Presnel Kimpembe, himself a left-footed central defender. The former Parisian, who now plies his trade in Qatar, recounted the moment head coach Luis Enrique informed him of the club’s decision to recruit a player for his position.
Pacho’s arrival prompted Kimpembe’s departure
“It wasn’t a heartbreak, no. Because I could sense I was nearing the end of my journey,” he explained. “I consistently pushed myself, striving to succeed and achieve my objectives. While the situation grew more complex, it never deterred me from working diligently, from attempting to return to my peak performance at the optimal moment. The culmination, with this Champions League victory, is truly incredible. I would have preferred to depart as a genuine on-field contributor to that win. However, the best way to express my gratitude to everyone was to leave with that coveted trophy in hand.”

The defender, who honed his skills within the Paris Saint-Germain youth system, also shared the subtle sense of frustration he experienced, even amidst the euphoria of the Champions League triumph. “There was immense joy and happiness. Yet, internally, a small measure of frustration lingered. I would have loved to be a primary actor on the pitch. Although I fully recognize my significant role within the team and the club, not being actively involved on the field imparts a distinct flavor to the victory,” Presnel Kimpembe elaborated.
