RB Leipzig cools PSG’s pursuit of Yan Diomandé

The transfer narrative surrounding Ivorian winger Yan Diomandé has taken a new turn. Highly sought after in the current transfer window, Diomandé was reportedly keen on joining Paris Saint-Germain. However, RB Leipzig appears resolute in its stance, signalling a firm refusal to let their star player depart.

Yan Diomandé, who has impressed with a strong start to the World Cup campaign, building on his stellar season with RB Leipzig, is attracting considerable interest from top clubs. Despite being a priority target for Liverpool, the talented Ivorian winger was reportedly leaning towards a move to PSG, potentially bringing him closer to a transfer to the double European champions. Nevertheless, Marcel Schäfer, RB Leipzig’s sporting director, has moved to dampen the Parisian club’s hopes.

Leipzig rebuffs PSG’s approach for Diomandé

“Our intention is unequivocally clear: Yan Diomandé will play for RB Leipzig next season. We will not waver on this matter!” Schäfer asserted. “We are fully aware of his immense value. Certainly, if Yan maintains his current trajectory, a time will come for him to take the next step in his career, but that moment is not this year. Fundamentally, he is bound by a four-year contract, and we retain control. The current developments primarily serve as a recognition of his outstanding performances – nothing more, nothing less. Should we not find an alternative solution, then so be it; he still has four years remaining on his contract. I reiterate: Yan Diomandé is staying with Leipzig.”

Meanwhile, Yan Diomandé himself adopted a more elusive stance when questioned about his future during a recent press conference. “You are informing me,” he remarked. “I don’t have internet, I don’t have Instagram, I don’t have TikTok. It’s my agent who handles discussions with the club; I have no information. I prefer not to discuss this, even with my agent, because playing in a World Cup is a rare opportunity that comes every four years, so I must seize it. My focus is on making history with my country and giving my absolute best. My dream is to represent my nation. I’ve disconnected from social media. My agent will manage everything else. For me, the paramount concern is to concentrate on the World Cup and achieve greatness.”
