Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has officially relieved Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko of his duties, as confirmed by a statement from the presidency on the evening of Friday, May 22, 2026.
This decisive move also dissolves the entire government. Oumar Samba Ba, Secretary-General of the Presidency, announced in a televised address on national broadcaster RTS that outgoing ministers are now tasked with managing current affairs until a new government is formed.
