Three Senegalese football enthusiasts, among the first supporters detained in Morocco following the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) disturbances, touched down in Dakar on Thursday evening. Abdoulaye Dieng, Ibrahima Diop, and Aziz Wade landed at Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) in Diass at 6:25 PM aboard a Royal Air Maroc flight, greeted by a jubilant crowd eager to welcome them back.
These three individuals were part of a larger group of 18 Senegalese fans arrested after the AFCON final clash between Senegal and Morocco. They faced charges of hooliganism, including public disorder, projectile throwing, vandalism of sports facilities, and assaults on law enforcement officers. After serving a three-month prison sentence, they were released on April 18. The remaining 15 supporters, whose sentences range from six months to a year, will return to Senegal as their respective terms conclude.
This homecoming marks a significant moment for the Senegalese sports community, underscoring both the challenges and resilience tied to international football engagements. Authorities have assured that returnees will be supported as they reintegrate into society.
