The Republic of Chad commemorated its 66th year of independence on the historic date of August 11, with a grand military parade held at N’Djaména’s Place de la Nation and parallel ceremonies across major urban centers nationwide.
President Mahamat Déby Itno attended the N’Djaména event alongside two distinguished international guests: Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, Head of the Republic of Madagascar’s Refoundation process, and General Horta Inta-A, Leader of Guinea-Bissau’s Transition.
The military display, lasting nearly an hour, showcased the prowess of Chad’s Defense and Security Forces, which now deploy over five thousand active personnel, as confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Earlier that morning, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno paid tribute at the N’Djaména War Memorial by laying a wreath in honor of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s sovereignty.
Chad, formerly under French colonial rule, officially regained its independence on August 11, 1960. Since assuming office after the 2024 presidential election, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has emphasized strengthening international partnerships as a cornerstone of the country’s forward-looking strategy.
