Antoine Assalé Tiémoko, the esteemed mayor of Tiassalé, a thriving and diverse city located approximately 120 kilometers from Côte d’Ivoire’s economic capital, Abidjan, has officially announced that communal transport services will become entirely free on weekends for residents.
This pioneering initiative is set to commence its implementation with a pilot phase towards the close of 2026.
“This measure is strategically aligned with our commitment to redistributing the commune’s financial resources,” Mayor Assalé explained in a statement posted on his official Meta account. He further elaborated on the remarkable growth of the municipality’s own funds, primarily derived from local taxes, which have surged from 24 million FCFA in 2019 to an impressive 91 million FCFA by 2025, with projections indicating a further increase to 100 million FCFA in 2026.
The mayor initially unveiled this groundbreaking policy on Friday, May 22, 2026, during the 11th annual accountability day event, which took place in Tiassalé’s marriage hall.
Assalé Tiémoko is a prominent personality, recognized for his dual roles as a politician and a journalist. Beyond his mayoral duties in Tiassalé, he also chairs the political movement known as “Aujourd’hui et demain, la Côte d’Ivoire (ADCI)”.
