Togo’s National Assembly has reconvened for a high-stakes extraordinary session, convened at the request of President Faure Gnassingbé. Under the leadership of Assembly President Prof. Komi Selom Klassou, this accelerated parliamentary meeting aims to tackle urgent socio-economic and institutional challenges facing the nation.

Economic and social reforms to revitalize key sectors

Private sector and investments: A major overhaul of commercial courts is underway, aiming to streamline dispute resolution and enhance legal transparency. By embracing digital transformation and aligning with OHADA standards, the reforms seek to create a more predictable business environment, safeguarding investments and preserving jobs across the country.

Environment and rural development: A new legal framework for protected areas is set to be introduced, reinforcing biodiversity conservation while respecting traditional land-use practices. This initiative has been widely anticipated by local communities and environmental advocates alike.

Administrative services and diaspora affairs: Togo’s upcoming accession to the Hague Convention will eliminate the cumbersome process of legalizing public documents such as diplomas, contracts, and civil status records. This move will significantly ease administrative burdens for citizens, students, and business operators, both at home and abroad.
Strengthening nuclear safety through international cooperation
In a parallel effort, the Senate has forwarded four international conventions to the National Assembly for second reading. These conventions, negotiated under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), cover critical aspects of nuclear safety, including:

- Rapid accident notification protocols
- Emergency radiological assistance mechanisms
