The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, conveyed a congratulatory message to King Mohammed VI of Morocco on July 30, marking the 27th anniversary of the monarch’s accession to the throne.
In his statement, Rubio highlighted the enduring bond between the two nations, noting that the U.S.-Morocco relationship is one of the oldest and strongest diplomatic ties in American history. «For nearly 250 years, the United States and Morocco have maintained an unbreakable friendship rooted in shared values and a joint commitment to peace, security, and prosperity,» he remarked.
The U.S. diplomat expressed warm greetings to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people, emphasizing the importance of this milestone. «On behalf of the United States, I extend our deepest congratulations to His Majesty and the people of Morocco as we celebrate this significant anniversary,» Rubio stated in a communiqué released by the State Department.
Looking ahead, Rubio underscored the deepening cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors. «Our collaboration will continue to expand in the coming months and years, as we work together to foster regional stability, economic growth, and mutual progress,» he affirmed.
The Secretary of State reiterated the U.S. position on the Western Sahara dispute, reaffirming full support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the region. «Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States remains steadfast in recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and endorses the Moroccan autonomy plan as the only viable, credible, and realistic solution,» Rubio declared.
He added, «Any alternative path would only prolong the status quo, which is unacceptable. Genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty offers this region and the continent the long-awaited opportunity to move forward after decades of stagnation.»
Rubio also praised Morocco’s pivotal role in the region, particularly its leadership in brokering the Abraham Accords. «His Majesty King Mohammed VI has positioned Morocco as a cornerstone of regional stability and security. The United States values this partnership deeply and looks forward to strengthening our collaboration to enhance security in the Sahel,» he emphasized.
The U.S. diplomat highlighted the economic potential of the Sahara region, stating, «Your vision for economic growth promises new prosperity for both our nations, and President Trump has directed his administration to support Morocco’s development initiatives, including in the Sahara.»
