Babacar bâ questions ousmane sonko’s stance on political funds in Senegal

Babacar Bâ, who leads the Forum du justiciable, has once again publicly highlighted what he describes as a glaring inconsistency in former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko’s discourse regarding the transparency of political funds. In a recent statement, the prominent human rights advocate pointed out that Sonko, now positioning himself as a champion of integrity and sound governance, had himself overseen a political fund exceeding 1.7 billion CFA francs during his tenure at the Primature, a sum Sonko previously acknowledged publicly.

From Babacar Bâ’s perspective, the irony is undeniable: the current leader of Pastef had frequently condemned what he termed the state’s « caisses noires » (black funds) in the past, only to find himself managing these very mechanisms once in power. The coordinator of the Forum du justiciable has consistently championed the issue of political funds over recent months, repeatedly urging the Presidency, the Primature, and the National Assembly to disclose the amounts received and to submit to audits by the Court of Accounts.

The head of the FJ characterizes governance in Senegal as an outright institutional charade. He issues a fervent call to the Senegalese people, imploring them to awaken, unite, and reclaim their destiny – a plea delivered in a tone notably distinct from his usual technical critiques concerning public finance management.
