Benin romuald wadagni sworn in as new president

In a solemn ceremony steeped in tradition, the Constitutional Court of Bénin delivered the official presidential election results from the podium, draped in ceremonial regalia. Moments later, all eyes turned to Romuald Wadagni as he ascended to take the oath of office, dressed in a navy-blue suit and tie, right hand raised high.

With unwavering resolve, he declared, “I swear to uphold and defend the Constitution,” and pledged to “accept the consequences of perjury should I ever falter.” The declaration was met with a thunderous salute of twelve cannon blasts, underscoring the gravity of the moment.

Following the oath, Wadagni was officially invested as Grand Master of the National Orders. The Chief of Staff then presented him with the national flag, symbolizing the transfer of leadership and responsibility.

In his inaugural address, the newly sworn-in president outlined a vision of integrity, courage, and steadfast service to the people of Bénin. He vowed to safeguard the rule of law and fundamental freedoms while fostering inclusive economic growth that benefits every household.

On matters of national security, Wadagni affirmed that Bénin would remain resolute against any threats to its sovereignty and stability. He emphasized the importance of regional collaboration, stating, “We are bound together by necessity—we must work as one.”

The ceremony drew a distinguished crowd, including former presidents Nicéphore Soglo and Thomas Boni Yayi, as well as sixteen foreign delegations. Among the guests were regional leaders from neighboring countries such as Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger, with relations between Bénin and Niger remaining notably strained.

The new president extended a warm welcome to the attending dignitaries, reaffirming his commitment to deepening regional partnerships. “Together, we can build a future of shared prosperity and security,” he declared.
