In his farewell address released on Monday, May 21, 2026, outgoing President Patrice Talon expressed profound gratitude to the people of Bénin. He highlighted their shared journey over the past decade, marked by challenges overcome, reforms implemented, and major projects launched to strengthen the state and prioritize public action for socioeconomic development.

Here is the full text of his message:

My dear compatriots,

This Sunday, May 24, 2026, President-elect Romuald Wadagni will be sworn in, officially taking office. He will then embark on the delicate yet inspiring mission of guiding our nation toward greater progress and collective and individual well-being.

To him, I extend my heartfelt wishes for great success in the responsibilities he will undertake over the next seven years.

As I prepare to leave office, I want to express my deepest gratitude to you all. I am immensely proud of the path we have courageously walked together over the past decade—of the challenges we have overcome, the reforms we have implemented, and the major projects we have launched to strengthen our state and align public action with socioeconomic development.

Admittedly, the road has not always been smooth. Often, it was strewn with obstacles; yet these very challenges have given it its unique character and galvanized our spirits.

Today, as the world looks on with admiration and praises us, we can see how far we have come. Our efforts and sacrifices are gradually bearing fruit. This is a testament to all of us—Béninois and Béninoises from cities, rural areas, and the diaspora, young and old alike.

Having served as the leader of this remarkable endeavor and as a servant of our country has been a true honor. My gratitude to Bénin and to each of you is boundless.

With you as my witness, I must acknowledge the invaluable role of a remarkable woman who accompanied me with affection and patience, whose coaching proved indispensable. I refer to Mrs. Claudine Gbénagnon Kpoviessi, wife of Talon, whom I thank from the bottom of my heart.

I also extend my deepest appreciation to all those who surrounded me with love, friendship, and support—each of whom enabled me to give my very best.

As I hand over the reins to President Romuald Wadagni, I share with you my conviction that, under his leadership, our nation will take even greater strides toward realizing its destiny—a great Nation.

I have no doubt that, drawing on our achievements to date and driven by an unwavering determination to go further, we will rally around him and with him, for the supreme interest of Bénin. Together, we will conquer new frontiers of progress that foster well-being, pride, and prosperity for all.

Long live the Republic!

Long live Bénin!
