The Cameroon Water Utilities (CAMWATER) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a partnership agreement on June 30, 2026 in Yaoundé, aimed at sustainably enhancing drinking water access for refugees and host communities, particularly in the Far North region.
CAMWATER and UNHCR are deepening their collaboration to support vulnerable populations. The two institutions inked a deal on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 in the capital to improve potable water supply around the Minawao refugee camp in the Far North.
The agreement was signed by CAMWATER’s Director General, Dr. Blaise Moussa, and UNHCR’s representative in Cameroon, Yvette Muhimpundu. It is part of the “Alternative Solutions for Minawao Camp” project, backed by the European Union, German cooperation (GIZ), and UNHCR.
Under this arrangement, CAMWATER will lend its expertise in designing, building, and monitoring water supply infrastructure, while UNHCR continues its work on refugee protection and resilience building, in coordination with Cameroonian authorities.
Both organizations aim to enhance living conditions for refugees and host communities, while tackling challenges related to population pressure and sustainable water resource management.
