In alignment with World Plastic Bag Free Day, SOLIBRA has inaugurated the ECO BOX initiative, a bold step forward in combating plastic pollution and fostering a circular economy within the bustling commune of Treichville.
The project’s rollout targets the persistent challenge of plastic waste accumulation, which clogs drainage systems and strains sanitation infrastructure in the area. With daily plastic waste generation reaching critical levels, ECO BOX introduces a structured approach to collection and recycling, turning discarded materials into valuable resources.
This transformative initiative is powered by a strategic partnership between SOLIBRA, the J’Adore de Treichville Foundation, and BIRWAST, a leader in plastic waste recycling. Together, these stakeholders aim to revolutionize urban waste management, safeguard the environment, and unlock new economic prospects for local communities.
Equipping the campaign for success
To kickstart operations, essential tools have been distributed to the ground teams, including six wheelbarrows, a collection tricycle, 80 garbage bags, twelve rakes, alongside gloves, shovels, and brooms. These resources are designed to streamline waste collection and ensure efficient handling from day one.
Clear goals and community impact
The ECO BOX project sets out to achieve tangible outcomes, such as drastically reducing plastic waste in drainage channels to lower flood risks, creating job opportunities for local youth as collectors and drivers, and maximizing the value of collected plastics through recycling processes.
A key component of the project involves raising public awareness. Trained collectors will engage with residents, educating them on proper waste sorting practices and fostering a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility throughout Treichville.
The launch event culminated in a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the official commencement of ECO BOX. Following the ceremony, the keys to the first collection tricycle were handed over to a designated agent, who will now navigate the streets of Treichville, collecting plastic waste and setting an example for sustainable urban living.
