The Republican Police in Cotonou launched a significant operation this week, effectively striking at urban criminal networks within the Vodjè district. This targeted intervention successfully dismantled a notorious hub, previously housing a clandestine Indian hemp trafficking operation. Initial findings from the investigation reveal that this location functioned as both a critical transit point and a consumption site for users.

The raid resulted in the apprehension of multiple individuals at the scene and the confiscation of substantial equipment directly associated with the illicit trade. Ongoing investigations are diligently working to identify and apprehend all connected branches and individuals involved in this criminal enterprise.
Military involvement uncovered in drug ring?
However, the case has taken a serious turn as the Republican Police are now actively seeking an officer from the Béninese armed forces. This military individual, known by the alias « Alòtrò » (meaning ‘gecko’ or ‘margouillat’), is a key focus for investigators, who suspect him of direct complicity with the trafficking networks.
Intelligence gathered by security services indicates that the soldier did not frequent the ghetto for personal drug consumption. Instead, he allegedly established a sophisticated racketeering scheme, systematically extorting regular payments from the drug dealers.
In return for these illicit payments, the military officer reportedly offered them supposed protection and immunity from potential law enforcement raids, thereby betraying his sworn duty.
