A civil court in Dakar has once again deferred the highly publicized property dispute trial between former Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The case, centered on the ownership of a 264 m² villa in the Keur Gorgui district, has been rescheduled for July 22, 2026 by the Third Civil Chamber of the Dakar Tribunal.
The legal battle began when Mame Mbaye Niang filed a lawsuit against Ousmane Sonko, alleging that the transfer of the property’s lease rights to the latter’s family was a deliberate attempt to render the Prime Minister insolvent and shield the villa from potential seizure. The plaintiff is seeking the annulment of this transfer and the reinstatement of the property deed under his name.
This move comes after the Dakar Court of Appeal had previously awarded Mame Mbaye Niang a definitive damages claim of 200 million CFA francs in a related criminal case concluded by the Supreme Court. The civil proceedings now await the submission of additional legal arguments from both sides before a final ruling is issued.
The delay, which marks the second postponement of the trial, underscores the complexity of the legal and financial stakes involved in this high-profile dispute.
