Elversberg are enjoying their first season in the German top flight after finishing second in the 2. Bundesliga last term with 62 points. Vincent Wagner’s side made a perfect start with two wins from two matchdays, taking fourth place on six points. The Saarland club beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 on 29 August thanks to goals from Lukas Petkov, Cole Campbell and David Mokwa, then came from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at Mönchengladbach on 5 September. Maurice Krattenmacher scored twice in that victory. With seven goals already, Elversberg have the best attack in the league. Krattenmacher is set to face his former club: the 20-year-old winger left Bayern Munich for Elversberg in June.
Bayern Munich sit sixth with four points, two behind their hosts. Vincent Kompany’s men launched their campaign with a 5-1 win over Stuttgart, with Michael Olise striking twice, before being held to a 0-0 draw at Schalke 04. That result ended a run of 59 consecutive official matches in which Bayern had scored at least once. The Bavarian club responded on Thursday in the Champions League, sweeping aside Bodø/Glimt 5-0 with goals from Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane, Alphonso Davies and Michael Olise. German champions last season with 89 points, Bayern added Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari to their squad this summer.
