Following Sunday’s abandoned match against Toulouse—halted due to a pitch invasion by supporters—FC Nantes has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the incidents surrounding the fixture.

The club expressed its firm stance in a statement published on its official website on Monday afternoon, as the French Football League (LFP) continues its investigation into the incident. The LFP is expected to deliberate on the matter during its meeting on May 27.

Club values under threat, says Nantes

FC Nantes did not mince words in its statement, emphasizing that « the club’s values, history, and identity cannot be compromised by such acts and behaviors ». The club, now relegated to Ligue 2, acknowledged the « distress and frustration » of its supporters amid a challenging season but stressed that anger and disappointment cannot justify the actions of hooded individuals storming the pitch at Stade de la Beaujoire, creating an atmosphere of intimidation and tension.

The club firmly believes that « a football stadium must remain a popular, festive, and secure space for everyone ».

Call for unity and calm

FC Nantes also took the opportunity to commend the « vast majority of supporters » who remained composed throughout the evening. The club extended its gratitude to the security teams and authorities for their diligent work during the match.

The statement concluded with an appeal for « unity, calm, and respect », urging all stakeholders to collaborate with authorities, the LFP, and state services to uncover the truth and establish accountability. The club emphasized that these principles are essential to « prepare for next season under the best possible conditions ».
