A French citizen has been held in detention in Senegal since February, facing multiple serious charges, notably including “unnatural acts.” French diplomatic channels confirm they are closely monitoring the evolving situation regarding this sensitive case.
The individual, a French engineer in his thirties residing in Dakar, was incarcerated on February 14, 2026. His arrest reportedly occurred as part of a broader operation targeting several individuals within the country.
Grave charges levied
The charges against him are extensive, including “acts against nature,” criminal association, money laundering, and attempted transmission of HIV. These serious accusations are unfolding within a highly sensitive judicial environment in Senegal.
Active consular support
French authorities confirm that their embassy in Dakar is diligently following the case. Consular officials have conducted four visits to the detained individual and maintain regular communication with his family in France.
Stricter legal framework
Senegal has recently enacted stricter legal measures concerning same-sex relationships, with potential penalties now extending up to ten years in prison. This legislative shift reflects a broader hardening of societal and governmental stances on LGBT+ issues within the nation.
