On the second day of his official tour in Libreville, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, President of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar, embarked on an extensive exploration of the Gabonese capital’s most significant infrastructure. Accompanied by Hermann Immongault, the Vice-President of the government, Colonel Randrianirina visited key sites on Saturday, June 6. His itinerary included the modern Cité Émeraude, the scenic Baie des Rois, and the distinguished Cité de la Démocratie, where he specifically toured the grand banquet hall, the impressive Palais des Congrès, and the revered Omar Bongo Ondimba museum.
Following what he described as a “touristic marathon,” the Malagasy leader shared his perspective that the remarkable progress witnessed in Gabon exemplifies a continent in dynamic transformation. He underscored that these achievements powerfully illustrate the commitment of African leaders to modernize their respective nations and propel their development forward. “Everything I have observed in Gabon reflects the strong desire of numerous African presidents to modernize, to advance their countries and indeed, all of Africa,” he stated. While acknowledging that Madagascar’s unique processes preclude an identical replication of the Gabonese model, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina lauded the significant outcomes achieved by Gabon’s authorities during the Transition period.
He further noted that certain accomplishments in Gabon, initially perceived as challenging or even unattainable within such a condensed timeframe, were nevertheless realized. This swift progress deeply impressed him. Consequently, he affirmed his intention to draw valuable lessons from Gabon’s experience to support the ongoing refoundation process in his own country.
“As you mentioned earlier, we aim to learn from Gabon to successfully steer Madagascar’s refoundation process, ensuring we can guide the nation towards presidential elections as swiftly as possible,” he emphasized. His stated primary objective is clearly to facilitate presidential elections in Madagascar without undue delay. Colonel Michaël Randrianirina concluded his visit and departed Libreville yesterday, in the middle of the morning.
