Malian army secures arrival of 940 supply trucks in Bamako

Between June 23 and June 29, the Malian military successfully guided a massive convoy of 940 civilian transport vehicles toward the capital city, Bamako. This security operation covered the critical route stretching from Kayes through Sandari and Diéma.

The mission initially kicked off with 540 trucks traveling from Kayes to Sandari. As the convoy progressed, it was reinforced by a military unit arriving from Diéma. During the journey, several vehicles that had been stranded along the roadside were incorporated into the group, bringing the final count to 940 trucks before the final leg of the trip to Bamako.

The entire fleet reached the capital without any significant disruptions. The convoy navigated through various towns along this vital transit corridor to ensure the safe delivery of cargo, providing a much-needed boost to local commerce.

This large-scale protection effort comes at a time when road security has faced increasing threats across several regions. Additionally, Bamako has been grappling with consistent challenges regarding fuel availability, making these protected deliveries even more critical for the city’s stability.

The road connecting Kayes to Bamako serves as a lifeline for the nation, linking the capital to western regions and providing access to trade routes from Sénégal and Mauritania. It remains the primary artery for transporting petroleum products, food supplies, industrial equipment, and various consumer goods destined for domestic markets.
