After a standout season in Ligue 1, Malian midfielder Mamadou Sangaré is set to embark on a new journey with Brentford FC. The club confirmed the transfer, though the exact fee remains undisclosed, with British media estimating the deal at over €45 million.
Sangaré, who arrived in France last summer from Rapid Vienna, has signed a five-year contract with Brentford, making him the London club’s most expensive signing to date.
His departure from RC Lens comes after a remarkable season where he established himself as a key player in Ligue 1. He helped the team secure the Coupe de France title and was honored with the Marc-Vivien Foé Award, recognizing the best African player in the French league.
“Mamadou has been on our radar for some time—he embodies everything we look for in a Brentford player, both on and off the pitch. I have no doubt he’ll win over the fans quickly,” said Brentford’s head coach, Keith Andrews.
Lens expressed gratitude for Sangaré’s contributions, calling his time at the club “a season filled with unforgettable moments,” and wished him continued success in his career. Born in Bamako, the young talent was scouted by Red Bull Salzburg after impressing at the Yeelen Olympique academy in the Malian capital.
