In a recent analysis from Washington, Moroccan-American scholar Mohamed Daadaoui highlighted the Kingdom’s pivotal role in shaping proactive migration policies across North Africa. The expert emphasized how Morocco has emerged as a trusted regional leader, recognized for its credible and reliable approach to preventing irregular migration flows. According to Daadaoui, the country’s strategy has earned international acclaim for its effectiveness in addressing one of the continent’s most pressing challenges.
Balancing bilateral cooperation with the limits of unilateral action
The academic pointed to the seamless coordination between Morocco and Spain in tackling human trafficking networks and conducting complex rescue operations at sea. Yet, while praising the Kingdom’s efforts, he cautioned against overburdening a single nation with the entire responsibility. “While Morocco can secure its borders, it cannot single-handedly resolve the broader issue of irregular migration,” Daadaoui noted, stressing that transcontinental migration demands a collective response rather than being left to transit countries alone.
Europe urged to prioritize root causes of migration
Daadaoui concluded by urging European policymakers to shift their focus toward addressing the socio-economic drivers pushing people to migrate. He underscored that sustainable solutions in the Mediterranean hinge on deeper collaboration with Morocco. “Effective migration management relies heavily on partnership with Morocco as a dependable and credible ally,” he stressed, calling for stronger strategic alliances to create lasting stability.
