Salmata sawadogo named Burkina Faso’s top woman at mousso d’or 2026 ceremony

The fourth annual Mousso d’Or awards, held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Ouagadougou, celebrated remarkable Burkinabè women whose dedication, leadership, and achievements significantly advance the nation’s progress. This distinguished event, designed to champion female excellence, honored numerous women and organizations across various professional sectors. 

As the evening concluded, the coveted Mousso d’Or 2026 trophy was presented to Salmata Sawadogo, the esteemed President-Director General of Salmata Commerce Général.

This prestigious recognition highlights her impressive entrepreneurial journey and her unwavering commitment to fostering women’s economic empowerment.

The laureate conveyed her heartfelt gratitude to the event organizers and all who have supported her throughout her career. In other categories, Talato Ouédraogo secured the coveted «Pépite d’or» (Golden Nugget) award, while the Association Wend Guetta was recognized in the «Association» category. Charlotte Milliogo of USFA triumphed in the «Sport» category, Mam Sank was honored for «Restauration», and Almaty Meria received the award for «Artiste musicienne» (Musical Artist).

Each recipient departed with a distinguished trophy, an honorary sash, and a certificate of recognition. An additional trophy of honor was bestowed upon Adja Abibou Sana Ouédraogo, acknowledging her remarkable journey and dedication.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of several special awards, notably recognizing the Forces of Defense and Security (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) for their crucial contributions to maintaining peace and social cohesion in the nation.

Sanfo further detailed that the Mousso d’Or program extends its impact through social initiatives supporting vulnerable women. This year, forty widows of fallen FDS members received essential training and comprehensive support designed to bolster their autonomy and resilience.

Despite various challenges encountered during past editions, Mohamado Sanfo expressed his satisfaction with the event’s growth and the increasing public enthusiasm it has generated.

«We faced difficulties, but our passion drives us forward. This year, we witnessed strong mobilization, which underscores the profound interest in promoting women’s roles,» he affirmed.

In total, this fourth edition saw awards distributed across sixteen categories, alongside seven special prizes and one honorary trophy. Talato Ouédraogo, laureate of the «Pépite d’or» category, commended the initiative for inspiring women to strive for excellence.

«We encourage all women who wish to embark on new ventures to do so without hesitation. Today, female excellence is not only recognized but actively encouraged,» she declared.
