Sénégal appoints new prime minister after political shakeup

The President of Sénégal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo as the new Prime Minister, following a decree announced on national television. Lo, a former senior official at the West African Central Bank, previously served as Secretary-General in Faye’s initial government and later as a minister.

This decision marks another significant turn in Sénégal’s recent political landscape. Just days earlier, on May 22, President Faye had relieved Ousmane Sonko of his duties as Prime Minister—a move that followed a growing rift between the two leaders.
