Senegal challenges can 2025 hosting rights at tas

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) made headlines three weeks ago when it stripped the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosting rights from Sénégal, seemingly handing the tournament to Morocco due to alleged incidents during the final whistle in Rabat on January 18. The Senegalese national team, known as the Lions of Teranga, have firmly contested this decision.

This Monday, the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football officially received the CAF’s written notification and detailed reasoning behind the decision. This move clears the path for Senegal to formally challenge the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as reported by digital sports media RMC.

CAS to deliver verdict swiftly

The CAF president has already indicated full confidence in the CAS to resolve the dispute. While the court has not yet disclosed its deliberation timeline, a decision is expected within weeks. The ruling will be final, with no further appeals possible from either Sénégal or Morocco.

«The CAS is fully equipped to handle such disputes with specialized and independent arbitrators,» stated Me Matthieu Reeb, the court’s Secretary General. «We recognize the urgency fans and teams feel for a resolution and will ensure the arbitration process is expedited without compromising fairness or the legal rights of all parties.»
