Sonko guarantees Senegal’s stability, dismisses political tensions as ‘storm in a teacup’

Amid rising media and political commotion across the country, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has forcefully reaffirmed the strength of national institutions and the preservation of public order. Relying on his parliamentary majority, he insists the assembly will remain the ultimate guarantor of stability.

The message is firm, uncompromising, and reassuring. In a direct statement to the Senegalese people, Ousmane Sonko dismissed rumours of tensions and crises often circulating in public discourse. For the head of government, Senegal’s stability is non-negotiable and will not be shaken.

Calling the current upheavals mere ‘storms in a teacup,’ Ousmane Sonko criticised the agitation seen online and in parts of the media, where some predict parliamentary gridlock or a risk of unrest. ‘Nothing will move in this country, nothing, absolutely nothing,’ he insisted emphatically.

To underpin his stance, the President of the National Assembly recalled the political legitimacy behind his actions: a majority political party, broad popularity, and massive support from Senegalese youth. This bloc, he said, is the natural bulwark against any destabilisation attempts.

Beyond security assurances, the President of the National Assembly stressed the country’s democratic roots and the state’s impartiality. He reminded that official and judicial decisions ‘will apply to everyone’ without exception, ruling out any form of power abuse.

Senegal’s political future and direction will be decided exclusively through peaceful and democratic means. Ousmane Sonko concluded by affirming that Senegalese citizens will go ‘quietly to each election’ to freely choose their leaders and express their sovereignty.
